Second chance at Delhi University

The window of opportunity in Delhi University (DU) has opened again.

Many institutions will open up seats reserved for the Other Backward Classes (OBC) which are still vacant for general category students from Monday. Friday was the last day for colleges to fill their OBC seats.

But several colleges such as Miranda House, IP College, Rajdhani College and Maharaja Agrasen College have failed to draw candidates across a few programmes under the OBC category.

Miranda House, for instance, will throw open as many as 114 seats for admission across sought- after courses such as Economics, English and History.

Shaheed Bhagat Singh College has almost 100 seats to offer under the B. Com. programmes alone.

Out of the 54,000 under graduate seats on offer this year, 14,580 were set aside for the OBC candidates. According to a conservative estimate, as many as 700 seats could be opened for admission once again across colleges.

This year, most institutions are converting the OBC seats to general at the last cut- off. That is, they’ll admit students at the cutoff percentage for the concerned course mentioned in the last or fourth list. Fresh applications are also invited.
